Doing Business in Germany - Do's and Don'ts

 

Do's

  • Be formal in all correspondence.
  • Always address your business partner with his/her title.
  • Make an appointment well in advance.
  • Provide complete contact details and information about your company and give reasons why you wish to do business with them.
  • Be certain your products comply to German standards.
    Quote in Euros and include delivery.
  • Outline clearly what is included in the price and what is extra.
  • Make sure you deliver exactly on time.


Don'ts

  • Do not address your business partner by his/her first name.
  • Avoid brochures that may contain too many slogans!
  • Do not apply an "Our product is the best” attitude.
  • Be careful when you use humour or make a joke, as it may be misunderstood.
  • Do not quote ex works.
  • If you sell a technical product, do not send somebody, who cannot answer technical questions.
