| After
Germany was reunited in 1990, a new Berlin has emerged with Europe's
biggest construction project since World War Two. Berlin is now
again Germany's capital and the biggest city with 3.5 million
inhabitants. The Potsdammer Platz and Norman Foster's modernized
Reichstag building are among Berlin's most spectacular new
developments. It is the combination of modern architecture and
historic sites which provide Berlin with a unique charm. Not
surprisingly Berlin is one of Europe's most popular tourist
destinations with over 4,750,000 visitors every year.
Apart from being a popular tourist location Berlin is also Germany's
major industrial centre attracting a variety of industries from all
over the world. The leading business sectors include the
electronics, equipment making, luxury food and the engineering
industry. Recently Berlin has also become a popular conference city
with an ever increasing number of conferences and exhibitions taking
place in the Berlin area.
